Welcome to Mukilteo Community Orchestra



The Mukilteo Community Orchestra (MCO) provides intermediate and advanced adult musicians an orchestral experience in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. MCO members play a variety of classical music in weekly rehearsals and four concert performances each season.

Jimmy Huang, 13, is a seventh-grade student at Lakeside Middle School. He has been studying with Dr. Yelena Balabanova at the International Conservatory since age 4.

Jimmy notably won Gold Medals in the Bellevue Symphony Concerto Competition 2022, Platinum in 2023, SCMTA Concerto Competition twice, Cascade Symphony Rising Star Concerto Competition and Chopin NW Concerto Competition. He performed with Mukilteo Orchestra in December 2022, Cascade Symphony in February 2023, Bellevue Chamber Orchestra in March 2023 and complete Chopin Concerto #2 with the Cascade Symphony in October 2023. Jimmy won Gold Medals in the Chopin NW Festival, Charleston International Baroque Festival, Northern Lights International Festival in Sweden, Simon Fiset competition, Singapore International competition, Steinway regional Competition and numerous local competitions. Jimmy attended the Seattle Piano Institute in summer 2022. He was selected for the prestigious Seattle Chamber Music Academy and performed at Benaroya Hall. Jimmy was accepted to the Oberlin Summer Piano Festival and placed 4th at the prestigious Oberlin Piano competition being the youngest participant. He participated in masterclasses with Craig Sheppard, Anne Marie McDermott, Marta Aznavoorian, Alvin Chow, Robert Shannon, Hawon Song, igal Kesselman,Ting Zhou.

Jimmy was named one of 5 National Finalists in the Steinway competition 2022 and has been WA State Honors recitalist 3 times. Most recently Jimmy won the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival Concerto play-offs and performed with Philharmonia Northwest in May 2024 at the TownHall Seattle, this November Jimmy won the runner-up at the prestigious WA MTNA competition.

Jimmy is one of the youngest students to pass the Comprehensive Level 10 Examination of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Canada, ARCT Advanced Analysis, ARCT Counterpoint and Harmony with First Class Honors with Distinction. To contribute to our community and the world, Jimmy participated in fund-raising concerts for the Human Rights and war victims in Ukraine.

In his free time, Jimmy likes to compose, math, play tennis, ski, and travel.

Inez Ko, age 12, is a 7th grade student at Heatherwood Middle School. She began regular piano lesson at age 7 and has been studying with Mr. Allan Park since 2021.

As a passionate young musician, her commitment to excellence in various skill aspects and eras of composition shaped up her musicality. She has participated in recitals and competitions and obtained multiple accolades in the regional and national levels, including Pacific Northwest Piano Competition, International French Piano Competition, Chopin NW Festival, Seattle Virtuoso Artist Competition, Seattle Sonafest Competition, Russian Chamber Music Competition, EMTA Jazz and Blue Festival, SCMTA Concerto Competition, and Performing Arts Festival of Eastside.

Meanwhile, Inez often preforms piano duets and piano/violin duo with her older sister, and has attended several summer chamber music festivals in Seattle and other US cities. She is also a violinist in her school chamber orchestra and WMEA Junior All-State Ensemble.

At her leisure, she enjoys reading, baking, and computer coding.

11 year old Alvin Lee is a 6th grader at Skyview Middle School in Bothell, WA. He has been an elite student of Allan Park since the age of 7.

Within two months, he won his first Gold Medals at the Classical Viennese Festival and Sonafest Competition. He then won Gold and Platinum Medals from the following competition: Virtuoso Artists Festival, Pacific Northwest Piano Competition, SCMTA Concerto Competition, Chopin Northwest Competition, Performance Arts Festival of Eastside (Solo & Concerto), Eastside Symphony Concerto Competition, Bellevue Symphony Concerto Competition, Russian Chamber Music Competition, Pacific International Piano Competition, 9th Annual Rome International Music Competition, Brussels International Music Competition, International German Music Piano Competition, Ravel International Music Competition, Canadian International Music Competition.

In January 2024, Alvin made his debut at Carnegie Hall. He most recently won Platinum Medal at the 2024 Pacific Northwest Piano Competition, Grand Prix at the 2024 Time Era Music Festival, and Honorable Mention at the 2024 MTNA Junior Piano Competition.

Alexander Vollmer, age 14, discovered his strong passion in piano at age of 9 and started participating in piano competitions two and half years later.

He has won many top prizes in competitions, including UK International Music Competition, American Virtuoso International Music Competition, Chopin Northwest Piano Competition, National Young Virtuosi Recital Competition, Northern Lights Music Competition, Charleston International Music Competition, WSMTA Recitalist Competitions, Russian Music Competition, Virtuoso Artists Festival, Classical Viennese International Festival, Sonafest, among many others.

Alexander had his orchestra debut in 2023 with the Eastside Symphony and ORS of Tacoma. He has performed at venues including the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall and the Beethoven Haus, Germany. Alexander was accepted into the 2023 Seattle Piano Institute. He has received master classes with Mikhail Korzhev, Craig Sheppard, Eric Lu, Robin McCabe, Peter Takács and Justin Krawitz.

Alexander has been an Elite student with Allan Park since 2021. He is a 9th grader in Lakeside School. Most recently he won two highly-coveted Platinum medals at the 2024 Pacific Northwest Piano Competition, Grand Prix at the 2024 Time Era Music Festival and is the 2024 Washington State Winner for MTNA Senior Piano Duet Competition.

Minjae Kim is a 18 year old senior at North Creek High School.

Along with his brother, they were the 2023 Regional MTNA winners. Minjae recently won First place at the 2024 Chicago International Piano Competition. Minjae has won SCMTA Concerto three times. Minjae has earned many Gold Medals: Chopin NW Competition, Russian Chamber Music Competition, Distinguished Gold Medalist at Virtuoso Competition, 1st place at the Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition, Canadian International Music Competition, Pacific International Piano Competition, two-time Finalist for Seattle Symphony Competition, winner of WMEA’s Solo and Ensemble, 1st prize winner of KMA Competition.

He was a featured soloist for Mukilteo Community Orchestra Fall Concert. He has performed at Benaroya Hall, Mercer Island Burbank Park and Chamber concert venues. Most recently he won two highly-coveted Platinum medals at the 2024 Pacific Northwest Piano Competition and Grand Prix at the 2024 Time Era Music Festival.

Besides music, Minjae loves computer programming, computer gaming and tennis. Minjae is an elite student of Allan Park.
